Were the ‘old’ ways better?
One would think that with all the materials being produced and promoted (and bought) that we would be experiencing a tremendous spiritual revival among Christian churches that would spill out into our society. Unfortunately, that is not what we are seeing. Apparently the ‘new’ Christian writings, for the most part, are serving only to boost the self-esteem of the readers, not leading them to sanctification. What we need are truly Biblical, God honoring books that lead us to self examination in the light of God’s word. I want to recommend to you a website that produces several ‘old’ writings that have been used by God for many years to grow believers into a lifestyle of Christ-likeness. You can find a link to it ‘here‘. They are the Mount Zion Bible Chapel, and they have an awesome minstry that is blessing thousands of people across the world. One of their ministries is to offer FREE Bible courses. These courses are not the typical ‘watered down’ “Jesus loves you and only wants you to be happy” fare that is common today. Instead their courses are solid, grounded instruction in God’s word, with pointed application that calls for honest self examination in light of the gospel. If you will apply these courses and their instruction from God’s word to your life, you will begin to see life and yourself from God’s point of view…and it may not be pleasant! Try one of their courses for yourself and see what happens!
Another ministry that Mount Zion has is to make available many ‘old’ publications which were written by Puritan writers. These are generally free of charge, and just reading a couple of these will make you aware of the shallowness of much Christian writing today. God used these men in their day to call believers to holiness, and unbelievers to repentance, and I believe that God will use these writings to encourage and challenge your walk with Christ today.
